ATLANTA,
GEORGIA An array of ten Schuco Solar photovoltaic (PV)
modules has been installed on the roof of Campus Crossings
at Briarcliff in Atlanta, Georgia. This luxury, off-campus
housing designed for Emory University graduate students is
scheduled to open Fall 2009. Campus Crossings at Briarcliff
will include energy saving technologies throughout. Upon completion,
the property will obtain the residential EarthCraft designation.

The
solar panels will help power the common areas of this residential
complex. The 2kW solar PV system, supplied to Campus Crossings
at Briarcliff by Soenso Energy of Marietta, Georgia, will generate
an estimated average of 224kWh per month of clean electricity.
Coal accounts for approximately sixty-four percent of the fuel mix
used by utilities in Georgia to generate electricity (Source: U.
S. EPA). By partially powering Campus Crossings at Briarcliff with
224kWh per month of solar-generated electricity, this new photovoltaic
system will have these positive effects on our environment:
Prevent an estimated
4,225 pounds of carbon dioxide from being released into the atmosphere
each year
Is comparable to about
4.5 barrels of oil not imported for a year
Is the equivalent to
roughly .44 acre of pine forest storing carbon for a year
